I so enjoy the great viral cooking trends on Instagram. A food trend is, quite simply, my kind of fun. I’ve noticed people want to eat more protein, and as a gluten-free person, for me this Cottage Cheese Wrap trend is perfect protein-dense eating. It’s simple: blend cottage cheese with spices and an egg, then bake it on a baking sheet to come up with a high-protein version of a wrap.

Embrace the Imperfection

With this recipe (and many TikTok recipes) it’s not about perfection–sometimes the wrap browns more, and sometimes it browns less. Sometimes it’s thicker, sometimes it’s thinner. Sometimes it doesn’t hold together in the same way a piece of pita bread does. We love a good kitchen test, because we love delicious food, so we tested this wrap every possible way and had so much fun, finally coming up with a version we really love.

Customize Your Meal with Nutrient-Dense Ingredients and Flavorful Fillings

We focused on stuffing ours with nutrient-dense ingredients, and there is truly no wrong answer. You could make it vegetarian, or you can use options like thinly sliced roast turkey or my delicious Sizzling Everyday Roasted Chicken Breast. You can add my amazing Pistachio Pesto Magic Elixir or my Creamy Chive Dressing. I love to add plenty of olives and tomatoes but keep in mind that you don’t want to use super-wet fillings.

Elevate Your Wrap with Sizzling Chicken, Avocado, and a Magic Elixir Twist

One of my favorite versions was Sizzling Everyday Roasted Chicken Breast with avocado, tomato, arugula, and Marinated Red Onions. Add whatever Magic Elixir or special sauce you love, and you’re good to go! Take a peek into your cupboard or refrigerator and see what inspires you. You can put practically anything into your wrap, and that’s the beauty of this trend.

We noticed that many people used two eggs, but that made the wrap too eggy for me, so we brought it down to one. While using one egg makes the finished product a bit less fluffy, one egg also makes it less damp and more easy to work with. But if cooking trends are your kind of fun, try it both ways and see which you prefer.

Description

A food trend is, quite simply, my kind of fun. I’ve noticed people want to eat more protein, and as a gluten-free person, for me this Cottage Cheese Wrap trend is perfect protein-dense eating.

Ingredients

For the wrap:

  •   1 cup cottage cheese
  •   1 large egg
  •   ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  •   ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  •   Pinch kosher salt
  •   Pinch freshly ground black pepper
  •   Avocado oil spray

Filling for the wrap, optional:

Instructions

  1. Heat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a blender or food processor, add the cottage cheese, egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and black pepper and blend.
  3. Line a ¼-size baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with avocado oil. Spoon the cottage cheese mixture onto the baking sheet, smoothing it into a uniform rectangle (about 7 x 9 or 10 inches). Take care not to spread the mixture too thin.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove it from the oven, take another sheet of parchment paper and place on top of the partially cooked wrap then grasp both the bottom and top sheets of parchment to flip the wrap over. Peel off the original parchment and return the pan and wrap to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes. The wrap will be golden and the edges will look a little crispy.
  5. Take the baking sheet out of the oven and allow for the wrap to cool down for a few minutes. Remove the wrap from the baking sheet and let cool for a few more minutes.
  6. Cut the cottage cheese wrap in half.
  7. Spread 2 tablespoons of the pistachio pesto or spread on half of one of the cottage cheese halves, then layer half of the chicken, romaine, avocado slices, and green olives over the pesto and top with some marinated red onions. Fold the cottage cheese wrap over to close.
  8. Repeat with the other cottage cheese wrap half and the remaining ingredients.
  9. Serve and enjoy!
