A Lovely Thought from Teri on Juicing

I am quite simply crazy about my fresh turmeric juice with ginger and citrus! Clearly my enthusiasm is contagious, because “What’s in your turmeric juice?” and “What kind of juicer do you use?” have become my most frequently asked questions on Instagram. Turmeric root is certainly nothing new. It’s an ancient remedy that’s been part of Eastern and herbal medicine for thousands of years. Experts today use turmeric as an anti-inflammatory, and I am loving the effect daily turmeric juice has on my inflammation. I love it fresh and try to push the limit, so as my body gets accustomed to it, I add more turmeric and ginger to my shots. Currently I’m enjoying them a couple times a day, but I still adore my daily green juice.

I’ve been a juicer for ages, since the time when it was inconceivable to have a juicer at home. Meanwhile, bottled juices were exorbitantly priced. They now make these lovely little cold press juicers, making juicing so easy and efficient. They maximize the juice extraction so you get the most out of your produce. You definitely get the most bang for your buck! A juicer does not heat up or degrade the nutrients as a blender does, which is why I don’t recommend blending. My Nama J2 juicer is simply amazing. I always wind up with a magnificent juice, which is why I partner with them. (My discount code is CRUMBLES if you’re in the market for a juicer — I absolutely love mine!)

While juicing is by no means an inexpensive habit, the machinery itself has come down in price. My Nama J2 is quite a piece of machinery, but in the long run it’s a good value considering the effect juicing has on my health, which is priceless. (By the way, if you order using my code CRUMBLES, you get 10% off!) I find that additionally buying the larger hopper is worth the extra cost. Since I’m always on a quest to live my best life, feel my best, and take great care of myself, I’m thrilled that my Nama juicer has made daily juicing so easy and joyful. Plus I still take my MaryRuth’s Organics turmeric supplement! (You can use my code MROTERIT for 20% discount of MaryRuth products.)

There’s nothing like turmeric straight from the root itself! It is even better with a hint of ginger and some citrus. A dash of black pepper activates the healing properties. I keep my turmeric juice in the fridge in little bottles. There is nothing I love more than bringing a bit of turmeric juice to friends when we get together. Clearly I’m not a doctor and I am not making any health claims or giving advice, but for me, fresh juice as well as bottled turmeric has been a healing remedy.

One thing to know about juicing is that the result can be a little different each time, even when you use the same recipe. I use organic produce whenever possible.

Ingredients

Juicy orange wedges and fresh ginger on a white platter, with turmeric and pepper shakers on a wooden table.
  • medium oranges
  • large lemons
  • turmeric
  • ginger
  • freshly ground black pepper

How to Make This Juice

Freshly made orange juice being poured from a blender into a measuring jug with small glass bottles around it.

Peel or cut the skin off the oranges and lemons and cutting the oranges into quarters and the lemons in half.

Simply add the oranges, lemons, turmeric, and ginger to the juicer hopper and turn the juicer on. Let the juicer run until all the fruit is juiced.

Release the juice into a pitcher or larger jar then add a large pinch of freshly ground black pepper.

Serve yourself 2-4 ounces of juice once or twice a day.

Variations

I’ve grown to really love and crave this turmeric juice as it is, but can totally understand if it’s a little too strong for others! You can easily add a little sweetness by adding honey or agave or blending in a little pineapple or carrot. If you’re a fan of little bite and want to add an additional kick, you can add a pinch of cayenne for a little metabolism boost and flavor! If the juice is still a little strong for you, you can always dilute it with filtered water, or even coconut water!

Storage

Store the juice in an airtight jar or small 2 ounce jars for up to a week.
