Sometimes the simplest recipes are the most luscious and delicious of all. This “mondae” chocolate sauce is perfect for an easy but indulgent snack. It’s six ingredients, some of which might be surprising. But you have to trust me on this one! You are going to fall in love with this gooey goodness.

How to Make Your Mondae Chocolate Sauce

If you’ve seen our recent Gluten Free Blondie or Enchilada recipes, you know that we created a reduction jam to take those recipes to the next level. This chocolate sauce uses a similar recipe, but we incorporated chocolate and added it to ice cream. Talk about delicious. It’s like the hot fudge you never knew you needed.

chocolate sauce ingredients

To start your sauce, you will combine everything in a saucepan except for the chocolate. You will bring all the ingredients to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 25 minutes. This will create that fudgey, gooey goodness that will be the base of your chocolate sauce.

Once it is reduced, stir in the chocolate chips until they are fully melted and combined. Then your chocolate sauce is ready to go! You can put it on so many different things, but my favorite is a tiny scoop of ice cream in a Crum-bowl.

prunes on a cutting board

My favorite part of this chocolate sauce is the texture. It’s the perfect thickness that it feels indulgent, but the thick gooeyness is actually coming from California prunes! CA Prunes are an incredibly versatile ingredient in all things sweet and savory. They can add amazing depth of flavor to any dish, while also adding amazing nutritional value. They are great for digestive health.

In my year of health, it has been so important to find moderation rather than restriction. One of my favorite ways to do that is by indulging in things that still provide me great nutrients! That is why I have totally fallen in love with this sauce. It’s a great way to indulge that keeps me feeling good all day long.

Description

This chocolate sauce is my new favorite simple dessert! It’s so easy to make, but it feels so indulgent and delicious on top of a scoop of ice cream!

Ingredients

1 cup red wine

1 cup finely chopped California prunes

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

3 tablespoons coconut sugar

Pinch of kosher salt

6 tablespoons chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet or even vegan works!)

Instructions

In a medium sauce pan, add the red wine, chopped prunes, balsamic vinegar, coconut sugar, and pinch of kosher salt. Stir to combine. Turn on heat to medium high and bring the sauce to a boil. Once boiling, reduce temperature to low let it cook for about 25 minutes, or until sauce has reduced its liquid almost completely. Turn off heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir to combine.

Add this lovely mixture on top of your favorite ice cream flavor. So chocolaty and delicious!

Note: To gently reheat later, be careful not to burn the chocolate. Put it in a non-reactive bowl that is balanced above simmering water, not touching, in a saucepan.
